For me, I'm all about the paycheck. A career is just something that we do to make money in order to find the things that we actually care about. At least, that's my cynical way of looking at it, lol.

I don't think its cynical at all. I don't think back in the day that railroad workers were raving about the work culture. They got their paycheck and moved on lol. Work for us isn't manual labor but it still takes a mental toll.
I care about what I do, and I know when I'm doing a good job. So sure, I care about career achievements. I wouldn't say I'm doing it purely for the love of the game, however. The paycheck is the reason I'm here, of course. It's first and foremost a job. It's just that caring about the work and needing the money are inextricably connected in my mind.
