If you’re white like me it’s so important to realize that we were raised in a society where institutionalized racism is normalized, and we were born with privilege. You can’t choose the color of your skin, but you can choose to put ego aside and reflect on why this isn’t happening to me, and be vocal about being anti-racist.

I've been in that same situation where they never asked for my references. I ended up getting the job offer a week later without them reaching out to anyone. I think some districts are just focused on your experience and qualifications during the interview and don't always ask for references up front. Stay positive, it might be a good sign.
There is usually a three step process. First is a shortened interview with one person and then the second interview is with a team and the third is with the superintendent or head. So if this was first interview no most likely will not ask for references.
I know references are always included, but I think that’s going to become a thing of the past. Previous employers are now so limited by what they can and can’t say that I’m sure references don’t hold the weight they used to. I think you have a reason to be totally optimistic. Hang in there!
It seems odd to think that references are becoming a thing of the past, but I've heard mentions of that. I think people have finally admitted that the reference requests generally just elicit anodyne responses so it's essentially an empty exercise. I suppose it would only be considered useful if there was something that raised questions, or eyebrows.
It’s not possible to read into it. Wait and see. Sometimes they make you think it’s going well but they plan to hire someone else. Other times they’re just exactly what you see and the job is yours. Once I didn’t hear from them for a month. I suddenly got a call that the Board approved my employment. I was shocked since I didn’t actually confirm an acceptance.
