I hate to say it, but Musk might actually be doing a public service here. If OpenAI really is undervaluing its own assets at $40 billion, that’s a huge issue. The whole transition to a for profit model seems messy, and Musk’s offer forces everyone to take a closer look at the numbers. It’s sketchy if you ask me. What's your take?

Question about remote job negotiations

I'm currently interviewing for a remote role for a company based in NY.

The thing is I'm based in a different city (southern U.S.)

My question is:

When it comes time to talk compensation, should I base the market rate for the role on my city of residence or NY?

Would it make sense to ask them directly how they determine comp for NY-bases vs. other city-based employees?

Anyone have experience with this?

Context: Graduated in 2019 (Finance), 2 years at EY as a business consultant on mix of pmo projects and tech projects where I was developer (data vis, power platform, sql, vba, data analysis etc.). Joined Google on a 6 month contract as a data analyst.
