No certification. Go straight to PM Interview Exercises and iGotAnOffer websites to understand the PM questions and how to break into each FAANG.
Agreed with others. The degree will certainly help, but it’s not a true pre req for the industry as a whole (with the caveat that some companies such as Google do have a fairly strict requirement for it).
The key is to be able to speak technically and understand the implications of technical decisions on your product. You have to have a deep understanding of how software gets built because you need to guide the process. Part of that is communicating with your technical counterparts to get stuff done because you’re ultimately responsible for the decisions being made.
I do not have a CS or similar degree, but over the course of 7-8 years, I’ve learned how the process works, the key tenets of strong technical architecture, and how to work with devs to come to the best solution.
It definitely helps but not necessary at all. With your background you should be able to pivot into PM. More importantly you should at least be able to speak to product areas like building roadmaps, prioritization, working with agile teams, etc.
It would be expected for you to put in the extra effort to learn about technology and latest trends to enable better communication with your engineering team.
