Some cats aren’t super active, but you control their calories at the end of the day. Slowly cut back to help maintain their weight.
Was going to suggest the same thing. If it doesn’t exercise, then maybe cut down on portions and frequency. Or stop giving extra treats…
How fat is fat? Some cats aren’t super active, especially as they get older. Whether or not it’s an issue depends on their diet and weight.
Some cats are just content to lay around. But if it's really overweight perhaps you should take care of that. It's not healthy for cats to be too heavy, just like any other animal, including ourselves.
Love for the chonky cats!! 😍 Some cats are just large but research how many oz of food they’re recommended to eat based on their age. Cutting back and serving just a portion at a time is helpful. I’ve broken my cat’s total oz for the day into multiple feedings and she seems content.
Primordial pouches protect the internal organs and all cats possess extra loose skin and fat. This is why the belly is protected unless the cat feels safe.
It’s generally unhealthy for cats to be overweight and can lead to additional health issues. I’m currently fostering two overweight cats. No free feeding, small frequent portions of wet food, lower calorie hard food (which is really just better to eliminate completely), lots of exercise via prey play plus they have to run after prescription metabolic treats. I also have a fountain to make sure they’re drinking plenty of water. Hope that gives you some ideas!
