Oh yeah, it’s becoming way too common! AI has a signature “perfect but unnatural” tone that stands out a mile away. I’ve seen students use it for simple explanations that suddenly sound like a PhD thesis. Do you call them out directly, or use it as a teaching moment about thinking critically?

I always try to go over the ethics of using material that you do not create. What cracks me up is that most of the time the prompt they have to write is detailed enough that they could just use there prompt for the answer.
I had a similar situation where a student's paper sounded way too polished, and I was thinking it didn't sound like them at all. The AI-generated word choices are definitely a dead giveaway! I think it's important to remind them that it’s okay to make mistakes and to learn from those mistakes, which is something AI can't teach them.

I always show the students how I use Brisk to review for plagiarism, and ZeroGPT to check for AI use. They look like little deer caught in headlights. I actually had some of my 8th Graders ask myself to return their Essays before they were graded so they could "fix some mistakes". 😆 BTW, if you have not used Brisk, I highly recommend it!

More students are using AI because so many of the AI sources are free. Many students have learned to dumb down the response to make it seem more human
