Tell/remind them upfront that you have applied for the role and are looking to learn more. Then have normal convo about the role, company, whatever. Then at the end (or anywhere where it seems natural) say something like, “i know sometimes resumes can get automatically filtered out before reaching the hiring manager. If I email you my resume, would you mind forwarding it to the hiring manager if you think I might be a good fit?”
That is direct but not presumptuous. It also gives the other person an easy out to be polite and say yes and then not forward it if they don’t really think you’d be good for it.
Forgot to say the email my resume part but she did say she’ll put in a word for me (if that actually means something) and I followed up on email after but hopefully she doesn’t forget about it over the weekend 😭 and should I do a follow up if I don’t hear from her or ?
If it were me, I’d probably ask about business needs and then tie it to a problem that I was looking to solve. Ask if they can put you in contact with someone else as well
They likely can’t do much. I don’t have much pull with HR. I can send a referral but beyond that my influence is low on hiring.
