The week of my wedding, my husband (PL SQL Developer 4 yoe) was laid off. That was a couple of weeks ago. Luckily I'm still bringing money in as a software engineer, but I'm looking for advice on how to support a partner who has been laid off. When you say your salary jumped __x, how is that exactly calculated?

Mine was $16k (minimum wage before joining corporate) > $40k (contractor total before getting laid off) > $150k (current FT)?

Is that a 260% jump or 2.6x from $16k to $40k?
And a 375% jump or 3.75x from $40k to $150k?

Or do I calculate it by hourly rate?

I have been at my current firm for about 1.5 years, and in that entire time the partner in my group hasn't been out of the office a single time. Is that normal? I can't tell if it's standard for big law partners to not take time off, if the dynamics for my group may be different (only 1 partner in the entire group), or it the partner I work with is just a masochist.
