These types of people usually know people with influence and have a good law firm behind their backs, that is enough for them not to pay jail time for their crimes.
I think there is no fair way to punish celebrities, once I resorted to a call in Beverly hills, due to family aggression, and I stopped a famous actor who was beating his wife, in the end, nothing happened, and we had it released without charge and I was transferred to another jurisdiction.
When they say that there is no one above the law it is a lie, famous people and politicians usually get away with it, the only way that they are really prosecuted is that they commit federal crimes, such as taxes.
That depends on the country, in the UK everyone pays the same (except the crown). During the training that I had in that country, I was able to notice that nobody has privileges, not even politicians, everyone must respect the rules otherwise they will pay in jail or large fines.
After what happened with OJ, anything is possible. To get away with it you only need money, it is a shame that our justice system is as corrupt as that of any other country that we brand as corrupt.
I honestly think for some celebrities it is dangerous to go to prison. Let's be honest, you drop a super famous person in prison and everyone will target them. I think for them it's either a super exclusive prison, or letting them off.
There are many possible reasons for this, but one could be that celebrities often have a lot of money and resources which can help them get out of trouble. They may also have a lot of influence and can use their connections to get a lesser sentence or even avoid punishment altogether.
It matters who you have as your legal defense. Lawyers aren't cheap and yes, one will be appointed for you if you can't afford it, but the ones who are being paid astronomical salaries are probably going to do a more thorough job in your defense, in my opinion.
A lot of times a case can look very "cut and dry" to those on the outside, but remember that it takes days, weeks, even months to hear all of the testimonies and examine all the evidence in court cases. I can't go into detail for obvious reasons. But there are always facts that the media can gloss over or even miss entirely, and sometimes a case hinges on one specific detail.
Cases can be dismissed for lack of evidence, that happens a fair amount of the time for celebrities as well as non-celebrities. The justice system is designed to be the same for everyone, and no one gets a free pass just for being a cultural icon.
