Interesting, and a great time to ask some questions! I’m thinking something along the lines of what their position is like and how that has, or if, changed over time. Or something of how the position became available and one skill that the person must have. Never been in that spot, so not sure if those are good questions are not.
I wish I had seen this earlier - I DO ask this ONE question:
"What do you need from this role in terms of a Leader; across the board, let me know what Mentoring, Running Defense, Getting Resources, and making your role here more satisfying you need?"
How do they like to receive feedback? How do they want to be recognized/thanked? What’s the best way for a manager to succeed? What do they expect and what can you expect?
