Try looking into what platform is used by your e-commerce engine: Like shopify or woocomerce.
There are plugins for most tools to generate shipping labels as soon as an order is placed which both your CSR team and shipping team can see/access. Then move the label printer to where shipping team is so they can print and stick on the product during shipment.
Alternatively, think about a 3PL solution. There are companies that receive, store and fulfill online orders by shipping them with tracking
Employ an order management system: By automating processes like order tracking, shipping label creation, and inventory management, order management systems may help you speed your order processing and fulfillment process. This can expedite the order fulfillment process and cut down on mistakes.
They manually count shipping labels?
Yes
Why do you have two people count the same labels?
I don’t know why the process is the way it is, but the label printer is upstairs with the office folks and we have no erp system that connects to the shipping plant downstairs. We also don’t have the budget to afford a netsuite or sap system
PS I can be completely wrong in my thoughts since I am not a logistics expert but… Can this not be automated? They print the labels from some sort of system, so it should be tracked there. I assume there’s a manifest sent over to the shipping team daily as well for this too?
Yes. The labels are printed upstairs. Then we create a PO based on how many product counts for each sku. Then send PO downstairs with labels and shipping recounts the labels.
Labels print->count labels (customer service rep)->create PO->take downstairs->shipping counts labels->edits PO->loads truck. How could this process be improved via software or general process
It's true that there are methods and technologies you can use to enhance your supply chain management and accelerate order fulfillment. Using an inventory management system is one of them. By tracking your mattress inventory levels in real-time, you'll always be aware of when to place another purchase. By doing this, you can prevent stockouts and guarantee that you always have enough inventory on hand to complete orders.
Make educated decisions about inventory management, shipping, and order processing by using data analytics to help you spot trends and patterns in your order fulfillment process.
I definitely think an order management system like orderbot (where I work) could help :)
We’d automate a lot of the processes
