I got an email from a recruiter from PayPal about a position I didn’t apply for. How do I know that? Because on workday you can see all the jobs I applied for. I applied for one position in the company but got reply for another position I am not interested in. The recruiter wants to set up a phone interview? How would you react? Because I would love working there, but not in this position,
Would you say something during the phone call or before?

Hi all, recently in touch by Spotify recruiter for a Sec Engineer position for remote EU and was told that range was 60-80 out of base salary and equity. Had 2 years of security experience out of my 4 years. Was also told that there is no bonus scheme or no sign in bonus 😕 Not sure how I feel about this tbh.
What do you think?

A lot of people think that the only way to move forward in your career is to aim towards manager roles/tech lead etc, but there are a lot of ways to advance, depending on your interests. Not everyone wants to manage others.
What parts of software engineering have you enjoyed? Anything you'd like to specialise in?
Me personally, I really liked the automation aspect, making things more efficient, and I also started to be more interested in security. So I changed path and applied for a role in Cyber security within the same company (I know my title says Software Engineer, but I'm currently a Cyber Engineer).
The change meant a pretty good salary increase, and while I still do a bit of coding, my role also involves DevSecOps, collaborating with and educating product teams, tool management etc.
Let me know if you have any more questions :)
Move to CyberSecurity. With a coding background you'll def get compensated generously.
Thanks for the reply.
Are you currently in a Cyber Security position? If so, what do you do?
Have you tried managing engineers, or technical project/product manager?
SWEs are one of the roles in tech that make the most. Either get promoted or if you’re transitioning to another type of role it will most likely be lateral or you will take a significant paycut.
You're right, but I guess it depends on the country also (here in France SWE are not that much paid, except maybe for lead tech).
