In today's world it's often necessary to move to another organization to move up. If you're loyal and stay in place, the sad fact is that you may wind up being taken for granted. Or you get pigeonholed, people only perceive you as doing what you always have done. Moving to a new environment can reinvigorate your career as you come in having shed that baggage.

This is why I aim to move every 2-3 years. Generally speaking you’re leaving money and promotion on the table if you stay longer than that. “Loyalty” to a company in today’s day and age is misguided and antiquated - companies don’t share the same sentiment and will lay you off or let you languish underpaid regardless of how much effort or loyalty you show.
