I have been supporting a newcomer during whole-group reading (CKLA). There are times when the students read a page or two independently. The teacher has told me a couple times in as many days that the kids should be reading independently when he hears me reading with/to the student. The student I work with is essentially a non-English speaker/reader and the support I give him is a necessary scaffold. He's a Level 1 (WIDA) & is not independently reading grade-level text. Advice how to respond?

- 90k from a heloc around prime

Looking for advice....I work in a school with very low ESL population and those that are ELL are English speakers. I have had a couple newcomers over the years, but mostly in the lower grades.
