Help! I have one beginner ESL student. He's in 9th grade and he's really falling behind. He reads at probably a 1st or 2nd grade reading level. What can I give him to improve his literacy w/o being too babyish or demeaning?

Question for PC gamers: since i won't be buying a graphics card any time soon, i was wondering if it would even be worth it to upgrade Mobo/chipset. Current specs are: i5 7600k (OC to 4.4ghz, only supports up to 2400 speed ram, 4 cores no hyperthreading), GTX 1070 OC'd, m.2 nvme storage, 32gb 3200 cl 15 ram even though it's not supported). I know these are pretty old parts, but...yeah is it even worth it to spend the money

Have people received inflationary raises? My dad received a letter stating that they’re giving him a 6.5% raise + a one time lump sum of $750 bc of inflation, retroactive to July 1st. He works for a university and is part of a union. Kind of feel like my company is being shady because I work in CRE & we do raises + bonuses in February which was when I was planning to ask for an inflationary raise. But I feel like a lot of companies have done this without having their employees ask?

What do you consider too young or inexperienced to become a team lead/manager? A position opened up and naturally I’m next in line, hiring outside wouldn’t make sense due to the specialized experience and learning curve, however, I was told I would be on the very inexperienced side, which surprised me. Background: I have ~5 years experience and have been performing at an “Excellent” level per each yearly evaluation and casual talks with the several managers and co-workers.

I had a student tell me that he was learning more English by playing a Clue-like game called, Among Us. He asked if I could host a game for the class. The next day, during a workshop, the speaker brought it up as well. I checked it out and it looks promising and would certainly hook the students. Has anyone tried this?

Forgive me if this has already been addressed, but how do you handle teaching a student in an EOC course who does not speak any English? I feel like it is cruel to have them take an EOC in English.

Looking for advice....I work in a school with very low ESL population and those that are ELL are English speakers. I have had a couple newcomers over the years, but mostly in the lower grades.
