Twenty-five years of experience is not a burden, but a valuable asset. May your next company see your value, not your age. Wishing you good news soon. 🙏
Yeah, they’re giving the jobs to Mexico, Nadia, Philippines, that’s why there is no more jobs. Now with AI let’s hope it’s not too late to find something for the next 2 years, if it happens again…. After that, kiss our behinds goodbye 👏
While 25 years is indeed an asset, it can be viewed otherwise. Modify your Linked-in and resume to reflect only the most recent role. Remove all dates on education etc. Once in the door first you can discuss your extensive experience.
Sometimes companies take their diploma over extensive experience😂😂😂 go figure!!
Same here, Ive been unemployed 2 years!! Always some crap excuse, I will now change mine to extensive experience good call!!!
I went through the same thing after the economy crashed in ‘08. No insurance, no unemployment eligibility. I signed up to be a substitute teacher for my county and it was awesome. A HS diploma & passing an FBI background check (including giving fingerprints) was all I needed and had to take a 1 day orientation. I worked as many days as I wanted and had the ability to turn down assignments to choose my own or got sick. No benefits, but $500 a week was better than zero. It also allowed me to continue job searching and go on interviews. After a few months I actually started getting direct offers by teachers who needed to be out for extended periods. I even got handmade thank you cards from a class I subbed for over a month. It was a great boost of confidence after 2 years of failed searching. I wish I discovered it sooner- hope this info helps others!
Don’t lose hope. I would suggest applying for finance roles outside of traditional finance fims: When I got let go after 22 years of service from my previous employer, I took a similar role in a completely different industry. It was the best thimg that could have happened to me.
I too am extremely frustrated. Between just the process of uploading the resume, being redirected to fill out additional information, taking personality tests, no getting calls, if I'm fortunate to get an interview, I'm finding there's a lack of professionalism and lack of interviewing experience, followed by lack of follow through, including no feedback and let's not forget, the job responsibilities and desired qualifications don't align with the compensation offered. Add I've noticed companies now, some want the benefits of a qualified employee, but want no tax liability (1099) that use to be the reserved for specific industries and positions, never heard of it for the positions, I've been applying to recently. Sorry rant over. Ugh
Keep trying and know you're not imagining things. Time are different now. The former rules don't align. I would remove anything over 10 years ago from your resume and learn to use some of the AI apps to help you align your skillets to match opportunities with the job descriptions for which you are applying. This should help you see yourself and the skills you have from a more current and new perspective. Also seek out career dynamics and leadership you tube videos for advice on how to present yourself to others and/or tips on "passing" behavioral personality assessments. Be encouraged and have faith. Faith over fear always wins.
