Second on passing my CPA exams. This will be my third try, and I'm feeling better than ever. This will be the year!

You got this!

To do a short-term rotation with RSM UK (already interviewed and just waiting to hear back), or to try to secure a long-term move abroad (preferably, both). Went through some interviews with firms in the Netherlands last year so I know what to do, just need to refine phone/video interview skills next time around

Having the CPA, a few years experience with complex accounting at clients, as well as some experience actually working abroad on some foreign subsidiaries helped a ton since I have a lot to draw upon during interviews. There are plenty of US GAAP-based teams at B4 firms in large European cities (Amsterdam, Zurich, Vienna) as well as smaller firms looking to expand international services that are potentially willing to specialize . The interview I had was with the latter, and I used a few recruiters specializing in international relocation for finance/accounting professionals. Happy to give any additional info if you want!

My younger sibling (non-binary) graduated in spring of 2020 and has been living at home with our parents working part time with a social media gig. Before the pandemic they were also working in the service industry. They don’t drive and really struggle with remote work to the point that getting a full time remote job feels terrible for them. I know my parents have been getting more direct about telling them to get a full time job, which is obviously stressful and they don’t feel employable

Any thoughts on the best certifications to get in order to help move forward? I have considered the CCP from World at Work, but it’s fairly pricey to get by the time you wrap up everything. I was looking at both SHRM-CP and SPHR. Everyone that I have spoken to has the SHRM, but that’s also only looking at individuals in a small geographic footprint and within 3-4 different companies. I was hoping to get some thoughts on this from others? Thanks

Bad work life balance, mediocre pay, low odds of making partner, increasingly long road to partnership, little control over the projects you’re staffed on, independence requirements, this list could go on. Is the Big 4 really worth it... I am increasingly thinking it’s not.
