I’m very sorry for your loss. You should talk to a trusted manager about a leave of absence. It very self aware of you to recognize this and not force yourself back to work before your ready to be there for the team. A good team and manager will be supportive and work something out with you.

I want to quit advertising. It feels so meaningless to me.
This is probably a rash decision/thoughts if I just quit, right???
For me, I’ve realized that advertising isn’t going to be as fulfilling as they made it out to be. A lot of what it takes to make it in this business is to fully drink the koolaid and believe you’re changing the world with your tv spots or banner or whatever it is. I just can’t make myself believe that anymore. But the money is good, and as long as you can avoid wrapping your entire identity in being a “unicorn” or “rockstar” then you can set healthy boundaries with your job and find true fulfillment in other aspects to of your life.
Leave of absence via FMLA. Tell HR you need to take leave and they will walk you through steps. I’ve been there. I’m sorry. I hope you get the help you need.
Is it possible to share a little more detail about how it worked? How much time off, how much pay, how long until you were able to be off from when you began coordinating? What kind of doctor’s sign off did you need? Apologies for the questions, but have had this on my mind for a while and am curious. Did you feel like “everyone knew your business” when you were out for an extended period?
