I have been working as a specialist in marketing for 5 years now. The shifting algorithms (Meta and Google) , constant cancellations and sometimes not knowing what the hell is going on have left me with constant dread to show up at work, as well as quite an impostor syndrome.

I am considering going into Project Management. Has anyone experienced a shread of stability on this role, and can let me know if it would be safer with my anxiety issues + burnout?

I wish I knew the answer regarding the stability of a PM role, but I just came here to sympathize because I know all to well what it is you're describing. The industry is changing faster than I can keep up and just wanted to say you're not alone in feeling this way!

It's so easy to feel lost!

PMs I know who are really great love the job and it shows. Explore the opportunity if it interests you. There’s need for good PMs, but no job offers guaranteed stability unfortunately.

I hate the term “imposter syndrome” because I think it creates an excuse in our minds to not apply for the bigger job or tough it out when the job gets challenging. Stepping out of your comfort zone or facing problems are how we grow.

I’v been in digital marketing for almost 5 years. I want to switch to marketing operations or research, because I find I’m better at and more interested in market research, audience research than keyword research or writing ad copies. I understand I don’t have enough direct experience and platform experience, like Nielsen.

So, recently got put on a PIP after six months at my new job., two days after I told my boss and HR I recently learned I have a cognitive disability caused by an illness. The PIP was mostly because I forgot some deadlines, but also they said I need to be more professional in emails (even though others use zero punctuation and a lot of emojis. To clients.) and simultaneously ask more questions and ask fewer questions. Should I just assume this is unattainable and look for a new job again?

Will an MBA set me apart? I have a BS in Marketing from top 15 undergraduate business program with a 3.8 gpa, 2 years work experience (3 by the time I’d enroll), and scored in the 63rd percentile on the gmat. This qualifies me for an average business school (ranked below ~50). My goal is to move into a management position within the next 5 years and eventually move into a director or c-suite role. At your companies, do most upper-level marketing employees have an MBA? Is it from a top school?
