I have some good ex colleagues who moved over there and also looked up on LinkedIn and see lots of seemingly smart and accomplished people in their D&A team in the UK.
I'll ask my ex colleagues too, but wanted to see if people here have any opinion or information on this too.

A big thing for me was cutting out caffeine. I still drink coffee, I just drink decaf. I got to a point where caffeine was no longer giving me energy, it was just making me anxious and making my sleep suffer. Even if you don't cut it out completely, removing caffeine after around 2 PM will do wonders for your sleep schedule and overall fatigue.

This makes a lot of sense. I think a lot of people hit that point where caffeine stops helping and just adds anxiety on top of exhaustion. Cutting it earlier in the day feels way more realistic than pretending people in these jobs can just quit it altogether.
Get a routine. Sleeping early is always helpful.

I get the intent behind that advice, but it honestly oversimplifies the problem. A routine only works when schedules are stable enough to support one. For a lot of people in these roles, sleeping early is not a choice, it is dictated by closing shifts, clopens, and rotating hours. If it were that easy, most of us would already be doing it.
I have no idea. I have a somewhat set schedule and still can't force myself to get to bed at a reasonable hour. Coffee is the only reason I get through my shifts.

I feel this. When the schedule is draining you, coffee stops being a choice and turns into survival. It’s frustrating because people love to give sleep advice without acknowledging that exhaustion makes willpower basically nonexistent.

I’d like to know! Long days and sporadic scheduling will make it really difficult to get a routine. Unfortunately what ends up happening is that I get home and must sleep within an hour to be able to get a decent amount of sleep. I watch something before bed so I can wind down and avoid scrolling.
Rising Star
Exactly. Telling people to just get a routine ignores how chaotic these schedules actually are. Sometimes you’re not building a routine, you’re just trying to grab sleep wherever you can. Winding down without doom scrolling is honestly one of the few realistic things you can control in that situation.
