It is time to move on
Welcome to the world of finance. Been there, still there. Women in the workforce.
It's unfortunate, but there is no love in loyalty, especially in larger institutions. I agree, you could try to leverage yourself come review time but unless there is an opportunity for an actual promotion (where you have a higher title or grade level) they are not going to simply bump you.
Trust me, I had a direct report that had been there 30 years making less than new hires and he was a VP, wherein everyone else was an AVP. I thought it was awful but my hands were tied. Markets and salaries do change.
The only way to make money in this business is to move around every so often.
Not everybody makes the same amount for the same work. It’s unfortunate when a company doesn’t recognize the value in paying to retain talent, but that’s how it works today. Stay motivated to try and get a bump. Expecting 20k is going to be tough.
It's like a sports team but smaller dollars. The highest paid guy on a team might be usurped by the next guy who comes in with a bigger contract. Mookie Betts was the highest paid dodger until Ohtani. And then Kyle Tucker came in making $60M a year.
Now of course the corporate salaries are not publicly disclosed, but the market moving up means that staying in your role longer than 2-3 years is effectively shortchanging you on comp.
Time to get a promotion making 30k+ or more, or leave
I’d keep bringing it up during your reviews. If they don’t do anything about it, start looking elsewhere
What would compel them to give you an increase? Therein lies your answer. If you think they are going to up your salary just because you think it's unfair, you don't understand corporate culture.
In all serious note, time to look out. The message is clear, you are responsible for your own compensation package.
Same here. My company has been aggressively raising the pay of fresh graduates to the point where they make more than us mid-level veterans. Nobody cares about what we long-termers have built or accomplished in the past; future potential is everything.
