I just got my year‑end performance review, and honestly, I’m upset. I worked hard all year, took on extra projects, and consistently met deadlines. Yet the feedback I received felt dismissive and didn’t reflect the effort I put in.

Has anyone else dealt with feeling undervalued after a performance review? How did you handle it—did you push back, ask for specifics, or just accept it and move on?

It’s frustrating when your contributions don’t seem to be recognized, especially when you know you’ve gone above and beyond. I can’t help but wonder if this is about perception rather than actual results.

Well when uploading my self evaluation I just found out in the system I'm on a PIP that was not there two days ago! My evaluation is Friday and I'm quite honestly disgusted that I met and exceeded all goals and I'm not even told by my leadership anything other than positive accomplishments and awards and recognition and now in the same system I upload my evaluation I found out my manager initiated a PIP and just praised me in the team call. It's time to look outside my organization because you can't get any more toxic and gaslight than this!

I'm not understanding it at all and we exceeded all of our goals and objectives and saved over .250Mil in productivity and bottom line growth, it just makes no sense at all.

If you have self evaluation portion, prepare it throughout the year. This is where you get to shape the narrative. Many times, your manager may not know all that you do day to day and they’re also writing this review with recency bias. Do you remember what you did 6 months ago? Chances are, they’re writing reviews for multiple people and have forgotten your accomplishments.

And absolutely ask for specifics if you’re given feedback. Many times they can’t come up with an example and it shuts it right down. I’ve gotten my review adjusted because something was written with absolutely nothing to back it up. Hasn’t happened since either lol.

I had the same last year, though I was appreciated but it didn't turn into monetary gains

I learnt it the hard way this was iam ready with offers and that's the best way to do it and see how they value is

I would ask for specific areas where they felt you needed improvement. If as part of your review you can give a response to the review I would do that as well and explain why you feel you earned something higher. There could be things you did that were invisible to management.

Ok I know this is unhelpful to your post but man … I didn’t know at the director level you’d deal with the same BS individual contributors deal with. Which makes sense but still somehow surprising.

On a different note, I feel like this is how companies breed mediocre workers. I’ve never felt that it was worth it to go above and beyond. When I’m just kind of slight above avg I do just fine. When I knock it out of the park I get a cudos and a bit more pay. Or maybe praise and a prize. Or a trip. But not enough reward for the stress and effort I had to sustain all year.

Hey 🐠,

I am approaching the Roth IRA income limit, and have a pre-existing Roth IRA that was not converted from a traditional account. Is there a way for me to take advantage of the backdoor Roth loophole while funneling the money into my current Roth? Or, do I have to set up a new account, convert it to Roth, and make all future contributions into that account? I’ve already asked my broker, and they have not been the least bit helpful. Thanks!
