It's hard to say, but I know someone head of HR for a huge company and she said to have one just in case because a lot of companies will weed out applicants that don't because it subtly shows higher work ethic if you have one.
Okay I’ll keep that in mind!
It’s hard to say whether cover letters still matter, it really depends on who you ask. My advice is to focus your efforts on the CV, as that’s ultimately the key to making the cut. If you do make it through, a well-crafted cover letter can add value. Having a reusable template with an easily customizable achievements section could be a balanced and efficient strategy.
Thanks will do!!
I think I can count on one hand how many cover letters I have written in my career. And heck, I don't think I have written one since 2015 or 2016. I really do not think cover letters are needed. Every recruiter I have met says they never bother to read them. So, I personally never waste my time writing them for this reason.
Great to know thanks!
I think they matter more if you’re early career or making a career change. It’s a good exercise to prep yourself for interviewing.
That said, I’ve never read one as a hiring manager.
Good way to think about it thanks!
I've never used a single cover letter and I've been employed pretty much my entire adult life. I think they are a little bit out of fashion, as the average recruiter and HR person is a little bit too busy to be reading a page or two for each candidate. Let your experience in education speak for themselves and save some time by avoiding the cover letter. That's my opinion.
Feels like the consensus
