It’s so natural that nobody ever asked a question like that. Like any sportsperson EVER was asked that in the history of any sport.
It was a dumb question, the reporter may not have any malicious intent. She responded to it. So what’s the problem? The reporter got the mindset.
So does making it to the Championships (that is making 2nd place)

How is this a “natural” question? I watch sports, don’t recall other athletes being asked if they felt like they lost something when they actually won a top 3 prize.
She was enthusiastic and positive throughout the press conference and gave a thoughtful answer. The reporter’s intent doesn’t matter. The question was not smart.
Again I’m a fan of Gu’s…and her SAT score and Stanford education all top tier…I mean even one medal is top tier OR one Stanford degree, she has like 20 things anybody would kill for one- but this is a standard question asked of 🐐 s

She’s a bit arrogant but 10/10 face card
strong McK energy, OP
I wonder if the reporter ever won anything notable
I'm sure her communist masters are asking her tougher questions.
All her haters are so pathetic. There are so many athletes that have complex national identities and represent countries different from the ones they were born and raised in.
She has no ties to her father’s family and was raised entirely by her Chinese mother and grandma and spent her summers in China growing up. She speaks the language fluently and spent a substantial amount in the country.
First Olympics x2 gold x1 silver
Second Olympics x1 gold x2 silver
Also, her grandma who raised her passed away yesterday on the day she won her third gold
None of you will ever be as successful as her. And I’m glad she won the gold not because of China but because she as a person deserved it in the face of all the vitriol against her
She’s such as a pick me.
We all know the undertone of her interviews and her lackluster responses. She can be successfully without selling her souls.
Agree. I think he was testing the finding that silver medal winners show significantly less satisfaction than bronze medal winners because they were so close to gold (whereas bronze medal winners are so close to no medal). It was just a clumsy way to get some juicy footage out of her placing.

It’s the Ricky Bobby paradigm.
Totally agree. Someone like Kobe or Tiger would have had a very different answer. Not a better answer, just a different one
Former athlete here. I think the question was fair and well-phrased. The answer was also excellent, except perhaps for the bragging part. These are athletes who have been looking to overcome themselves and outcompete their adversaries all their lives. How they view success and failure changes over time. Asking athletes for a sneak peek into their mentality in a polite and respectful way is something that good journalists do.
OP are you the “we love Israel” guy
