I had dreams of writing a book but after spending all day at work writing the last thing I want to do is go home and do it
I feel this! I love media but sometimes I don’t want to do parts of my job outside of my job but I’m trying to separate them and bring back the spark
I keep up with various creative projects in the sense that I don't let them sit for too long unattended. I've found that if I pay attention to something even for brief working periods only a few times a week it at least keeps it fresh in my mind. If I ignore something I'll forget about it and any creative spark just dies out. At that point it's really hard to get back into it. So even when the "real" job is demanding a lot of time and attention, I make it a point to not entirely ignore personal creative projects.
This is really good advice, I think I just need to keep at it little and often
Dedicate one chunk of your weekend to your passion every week. Doesn't have to be a full day, but at least 4-5 hours on one weekend day. Carving out that time takes work, but it ends up being extremely worth it. I think you block it out on the schedule like it's an obligation, don't treat it like a hobby
I have an incredibly hard time getting started, but once I do, it’s usually not hard to keep doing it. Like I have to push myself to get up and do it, and then after that, I’m kicking myself that it took so much in the first place.
I struggle with this too. When work drains all your energy, creativity feels like a luxury.
I get that feeling. When work drains you, even fun projects feel like more effort. I try setting really low expectations... like five minutes a day. No pressure to finish, just show up.
