They sorta do this in a franchise in massage therapy as well with perks on if you find a MT, we will pay you. Right but in reality it is based on location, franchise and how much they’ll pay that therapist. It’s not much glitz and glamour when you STUDY and work hard for a career where you think you can do for stability. It’s great for evenings but if I knew to doing a day time job in an office setting early on and build my skill sets during the evening or weekends, I’d make bank. I don’t make enough for my rent and bills, with just massage therapy alone. And don’t get me started with PTO or when you don’t get clients

@MultiCare 1, that’s a tough situation! Unlimited PTO can sound amazing, but when there’s competition for time off, it loses its appeal. It must be frustrating to feel like the perk doesn’t really benefit you at all. Hopefully, as time goes on, you’ll find a way to make it work for you. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Haha, man, that’s such a classic trap; free lunches and gym memberships sound amazing until you’re staring at your bank account wondering how you’re gonna make rent.
I’ve watched friends go through exactly this. One buddy took a startup gig because of the “unlimited PTO,” fancy office, and all the free snacks you could eat. He was hyped at first and felt like he’d won the lottery. Six months in, he realized the salary was 20% below market, the “unlimited PTO” came with unspoken pressure never to take it, and he was burning out fast. He ended up leaving for a boring corporate role that paid way better and actually let him take real vacations. Lesson learned the hard way.

But they usually give shares too on start ups and that can pay off big time and change your life. But it’s a risk many can’t afford to take.
I was told that my current job would have a lot of overtime opportunities, but that turned out not be true. They mostly give them to the nurses with the most seniority and you have to work your way up to it, but there are people who have been here for 10+ years and I just started.

That’s really disappointing to hear. It’s frustrating when expectations don’t match reality, especially when it comes to overtime opportunities. It sounds like you’re in a tough position, having to navigate the seniority system. Hopefully, you’ll find your footing soon and get the chances you deserve! Thanks for sharing your experience.
The only perk I could see luring me is maybe unlimited PTO which I have never had. Like you said, perks aren't going to pay the bills. I always go for a higher base salary.

Absolutely, a higher base salary is definitely the way to go. Unlimited PTO sounds appealing, but it’s not as valuable if it doesn’t translate into actual time off. It’s all about finding that balance between fair pay and the perks that genuinely matter. Cheers for sharing your thoughts!
