I had the opposite experience. I once was told that the interview was going to be behavioral based and I got on and it was so technical. ☠️
That switch can be tough. Clear expectations really matter so candidates can prepare the right way.
I think what you experienced tells something about what their problem is and who they are trying to hire at the moment: it is more about team dynamics than technical "raise the bar" at the moment, so they want to make sure that you have those skills!
Exactly. Sometimes the focus shifts to teamwork and collaboration because that’s the biggest gap teams are trying to solve.

I’ve noticed some interviews feel like real conversations while others feel like rapid fire tests. I always leave the conversational ones feeling more confident about the team. Do you think interview style reflects company culture?
I think it does. Conversational interviews usually show a more open and people first culture.
I see more behavioral and soft skill questions than technical ones anymore. Not sure if my resume just adequately addresses those, or if that’s the way all interviews are going. Curious to know what others are seeing. I’d also say not many interviewers seem to know the technical side to even ask.
You’re not alone. Many teams are prioritizing communication and problem solving more than pure technical drills now.
