Jobs are always available for people with the right books. C’mon, it’s always been like this.
Simple fact, there are less jobs and less shops in the UK vs US
It's all about who you know. This industry has always been like that.
Apply to the agencies they’re leaving then, assuming there are openings in their wake?
There are less jobs available than normal. Every recruiter will tell you that, and they get paid by finding jobs for people.
I don't think everyone is gatekeeping jobs...
In my experience, if that's what they said, then they don't work with them. Not all agencies work with recruiters and some agencies have exclusive contracts with recruiters.
When I've switched jobs I always contact agencies directly and recruiters. I ask recommendations from friends, but I don't rely solely on them.
