How long have you been teaching? Also, what does self care look like for you?

I'm in my 3rd year. Self care for me means taking time for myself, so I leave work at work, take a sick day if I'm sick, etc.

like

That's really important. You're not doing anyone a favor going to work sick, even though it may seem like the opposite to a lot of people.

25th year. Painting, pleasure reading, walking, and practicing mindfulness.

I've just started working on mindfulness. How long have you been at it?

5th year and self care is learning to leave work at work. We don’t get paid for any extra work outside of contract time so I stopped working after hours and it’s made all the difference.

smart

That was a hard thing for me to learn... Still struggle leaving work at work sometimes. But I'm getting much better!

I'm in my 6th year teaching. I have to admit, I am struggling a bit with looking into self care. But I started to do less work at home.

like

4th year. I'm in grind mode so much of the time it's hard to find time. My wonderful school looks out for us, though! Once a year they use "morale monkey" funds to hire a masseuse and we each get a massage. Definitely improves morale!

like

Ten years. Video games, reading, bourbon, family, walks, cooking, laughing out loud lots.

This is my 13th year teaching English. Self care means remembering to make myself a priority and taking time to do things I enjoy outside of work

I am in my 6th year. I know that that is barely a drop in the bucket, but it's important to take care of yourself. I treat myself to either a facial for massage almost every 6 weeks. I also spend a lot of time reading for pure pleasure.

27 wonderful years! Self care is exercise, baking, family and friends, and a relationship with Jesus

When beginning a piece of literature, I first help the kids access the relevant culture. I have used web quests, but I have found that the kids researching their choice of topics and creating Slides containing information and pics results in more students participating. Recently they researched heraldry for the Medieval Era and reproduced either a family crest that they found or created their own personal crest. Anyone have other activities they use?
