That’s how I handle everything that comes my way. We’re very understaffed, and it feels like more and more keeps getting added to my plate. The best thing you can do is prioritize—and like you said, if it’s not communicated as a top priority, I’ll get to it when I can. I think we’re all just doing the best we can right now

There isn't much else you can do when your workload is more and then what can be done in your work day. If the same project continues to be pushed, it might be worth bringing it up with a supervisor and asking you how they would like you to prioritize your responsibilities.

That's true. It just seems like detailing all the things I need to do would waste time I could spend actually doing the things. But I know you're right.
Actually, you are just trying to prioritize and there is nothing wrong with that.
You want to plan out your day and work with those tasks that are the most important first and then keep going. Trouble is many people work on the least important things first.
As Brian Tracy says in his book "Eat that frog", you want to start first with the biggest and ugliest frog first.
Oh, come on frogs are good to eat LOL JK
