I recently accepted an MD position at Accenture consulting. Curious how those of you that have moved from Big4 partnerships to Accenture have experienced the transition. What advice do you have for me to be successful? What are the biggest differences between Big4 and Accenture? I have talked to many people (current & alumni from both companies) so I have an idea of what I'm getting into, but I'd love to have a broader perspective and advice.

Exactly what I’d expect from someone at Deloitte.

OP, I’m an L2 MD at Accenture. If you’d like to connect, I’d be happy to help you here. Feel free to DM.

We call this a career limiting move

I have seen a lot of B4 hires come in and think that they automatically command respect and that they are just here to delegate their responsibilities. You’re not. Show people what you bring to the table: client relationships, deep skills, etc. Also, no matter what anyone tells you your role is, you are here to sell and deliver. If you don’t meet your metrics, you won’t last. Make sure you find someone willing to shepherd you and help you make your numbers, but hopefully you did that before you accepted an offer.

Spent the first half of my career (17 years) at Accenture and the second half (17 more) at Deloitte. Despite what you may hear, both are very strong firms but they do operate quite differently. My advice is this… Accenture is taking a bet on you to add senior leadership without growing it internally. This usually costs more but if the individual performs can be well worth it. The perception of performance revolves around network and numbers. Don’t live your first year at Accenture as if you were just doing the same thing you did in your previous position - instead, put in 200% this year, use the extra time to build your network in any way possible and crush your metrics. I am not a self promoter but when you make a move like this, you have to make yourself be one. Make sure the right people know how you are adding to the practice. Done right, this will give you a glide path for the years ahead by eliminating any question around if Accenture made the right decision in hiring you. Good luck!!

It will be a smooth transition if your role is that of a line partner - at least for the first year. If you got hired into a leadership role - it's a pressure cooker when you work in a public company that is hard wired for predictable quarterly performance. ACN is a great company - good luck OP.

I’m Accenture homegrown and have seen our big4 partner and mbb partner intakes thrive. You’ll do great! I imagine it’s the usual shenanigans but much more by the book given it’s a public company. Whole popularity contests still exist to a large degree, corporate governance, policy and procedure exist to protect one from getting absolutely bent over without recourse.

I hear collaboration and 1 global network is a big perk for these folks!

How long was your process? I’m still going through it and it’s been almost a year.

I had a personal preference to take time off between roles. If I had wanted, I could have started in August. Would have been around six months from initial discussion to start date.

Been with company for 2.5 years in a SFA role, and they just let me hire an associate financial analyst reporting into me. My manager never mentioned anything in regards to a promotion, but when I asked, I was told that there will be an evaluation period before any promotion is given. Has anyone else had this before, where you are managing someone but they don’t give you a promotion? Sounds bizarre to me that they allow me to hire someone but then are hesitant to promote.

I currently have the adjustable stand desk and a relatively comfortable office chair (not when reclining) but the other half of my office is empty. Im putting in a 55” tv and need a recliner, lounge chair, or something of the sorts to put in front of the tv. Something where i can put my feet up. Conference calls are such a drag when i have to sit at my desk.

What was your experience with the LSAT? Do you think it's gatekeeping, preventing students who can't afford it (often people of color) from entering the field? OR is it helping future attorney's of color by giving them a chance to go to a top school regardless of grades? I've seen questions about the LSAT all day and just want to know how people feel.
