I'm in the same position as you. I haven't figured out if it's better to stay and try to get the money I need and deserve or look for something else. I know that to replace me, my company would have to pay 30% to the next person, and that would still be on the low end of the pay scale.
I'm sorry. Maybe they will take care of you next year. At least they acknowledged you being underpaid. My director would try to convince me I'm not. Good luck!
If you company does salary reviews and recalibration then it could be worth bringing up that you would like that done. I would say that a job posting is not adequate for this though (because it is still hypothetical) — you would need to know of an actual employee that is at the same level, same responsibility, same experience, etc., but with higher pay.
