I recently was interviewed. The employer wants to hire me. She emphasized their great health care insurance plan. Then asked what pay rate am I interested in. I asked for their range. She said $35-40 hr + healthcare. I informed her that I currently have healthcare through my husband’s work & that my present rate is $60 hr w/ no healthcare. She said she can negotiate but needs to look at numbers & get back to me. How much should I try to negotiate my salary in lieu of health insurance?

It sounds like you've done everything right. You're advocating for a salary that doesn't include healthcare benefits. If they come back with $50/hr are you willing to take the role? Because I doubt the healthcare premium costs are equal to that $20/hr difference that you're trying to negotiate.

like

No prob! I hope they come back with at least $55/hr for you! :)

You could try to negotiate more PTO? That would be the only other thing I can think of. Hopefully they can come back higher since you don't need health insurance.

I am a personal injury defense attorney and I’ve never done plaintiff’s work. I have a case where I suspect the plaintiff is malingering and exaggerating his injuries. The plaintiffs attorney has sent me multiple demands for $3 million dollars and basically begged me to respond with some offer. I’ve told him the truth - my client has no interest in trying to settle if his demand remains about twenty times higher than the actual worst case (for us) jury verdict. More in comments...

I received a job offer from company A and am currently negotiating salary. I have an interview with company B next week and know that they offer a higher base pay. There’s no guarantee that I will be offered a job at company B but my gut is telling me that company B would be a better fit for me. Should I accept the offer from company A, continue interview process with company B and then rescind my offer with company A if company B offers me a job? Will I be burning bridges?

Started a new job a year ago, high performer. My manager suggested a promotion to Product Manager since that‘s the work I’m doing, but that would be a 50% raise. Higher ups decided instead to make a “new role” (not PM), that has no analog in the company and is hard to price via Glassdoor, etc. I feel like this is to limit my promotion salary to something like 10% from where it currently is. Is there anything I can do? FWIW: I have a PhD from top 5 program and am working in that field. Thanks!

is anyone familiar with pay differentials, negotiating for a temporary raise or some other form of compensation for extra work? 3 coworkers on my team have recently resigned, and certain shifts are being expected to work at half staff until new hires can be brought on. if my workload is being doubled, i expect to be compensated, as they are paying one employee to do the work of two. any suggestions or wording on how to address this?

Should I Go Back and Reneg? Recently I was offered a role as a Project Implementation Manager (In Retirement Services) .The salary range for Colorado residents was 65-89K. I’m located in NY so the recruiter said he would try to get me more. Ultimately he came back at 90K which is a bit inline with that I was seeing on Glassdoor but approx looks like I may leave 10-12K on the table. I accepted already but may get an offer from another HR company in account management around 90-100K. Need advice

Im currently going through industry change.
Im a pastry cook with 4yrs experience and the average salary start for this position is now at $22/hr here in vegas, especially in the strip. But cooking/baking is not my passion. So im changing into veterinary medicine and im seeing that the starting rate for a vet tech is around $16-18. Why is that?? Why are people in the vet med industry being paid so low?? Something needs to change. Labor of love aint enough for the people in this job.

I’m a former forensic scientist that left the field several years ago. I recently received a subpoena from a case I worked and suggested to DA to have evidence re-worked by the lab or stipulation. If I am required to testify (as an expert witness), I would need to book a flight, hotel, etc. My question is this: can I ask for my requested hourly rate, travel, and hotel to be covered when speaking with DA or is that “not how this works” as the investigator put it?

Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.
