There is a chance they are collecting your information to contact when a job is available. I don't see why it would hurt to apply though

It's good to check on companies you deal with via LinkedIn, just to make sure they're not scammers. But if it's a legit recruiting firm you might as well apply and see how it goes. The quality of recruiters can vary, but some of them do have access to jobs and connections and they do place people in positions.
