The absence of chaos in a retail environment is an incredible sign of success. Employees who are the glue that holds the place together are often overlooked until suddenly they aren't there anymore. It is an unfortunate part of the industry.
I was always raised to be humble and not run around screaming about every little thing you accomplish... but it sure is discouraging when you watch people climb ahead by doing exactly that...
Squeaky wheel gets the grease i suppose lol. Ahhh the plight of being decent.
I've gotten good at patting myself on the back because no one else is going to 😂. Doesn't matter if it's at work or in my personal life. You should be just as quick to acknowledge your successes as you are your failures. And remember that not every accomplishment will seem like a huge deal - doesn't mean it's not worth giving yourself credit for, even if it's just putting away the laundry or something.
Rising Star
I've always said (and seen when I have been off for paternity leave) that they will notice the place falls apart and you are very much so needed. All these small details add up to the bigger picture.
I was going to say the same thing. Suddenly take a week or two off, and see how much you are valued.
Management is a thankless job. Someone told me this once and it hit me in a way. But when you faultier, everyone is very quick to see it.
Before I got let go, I used to do a bunch of easy to understand organizing in the walk in refrigerators and kept the cook's line fully stocked even in high volume times. I made the food look vibrant. It wasn't like that before I got hired and it won't be the same since I'm not there anymore.
