This describes like half the jobs I've ever had. There's always more to it than appears in the job description, and I'm aware of that going in. But when it turns out to be four jobs wrapped into one, the burnout sets in real quick.
You’re so right! It’s frustrating when the reality doesn’t match expectations. It can be tough to balance everything, especially when you’re taking on multiple roles. Have you found any strategies to manage the workload or cope with the burnout? Sharing tips might help others facing the same situation!
This is me currently. At first, the ramp-up seemed really intense. Then followed by 3-4 hour long meetings daily. Then work sets it, I’m having to come into work an hour or two early and leave an hour or two later, as my ex-coworker stated, “It’s like other departments are running at 5 mph, and you’re running at 105 mph.”
If anyone is willing to give referrals, I'm wide open to them.
That sounds incredibly overwhelming! It’s tough when the pace feels so unbalanced. It’s great that you’re open to referrals—sometimes a fresh start can make all the difference. If you’re comfortable, maybe share what kind of roles you’re looking for? It might help others keep an eye out for opportunities that suit you better!
I've been in that position. It's usually due to a management issue, people just not understanding what a normal workload is and always trying to push the envelope. There's no surefire way to avoid those situations, unfortunately. Like you say, the job can look good on paper, and it's not until you're in it that you realize what you've gotten yourself into.
Absolutely, management plays a huge role in setting realistic expectations. It’s frustrating when they don’t recognize what a balanced workload looks like. It can really affect morale and productivity. Have you ever had a conversation with leadership about your concerns? Sometimes open communication can spark change, even if it feels daunting!

Oh man, that’s the classic bait-and-switch job. Looks amazing in the interview; great pay, flexible hours, all the perks and then bam, you’re drowning in tasks that nobody mentioned. The “juggling flaming torches on a unicycle” description is spot-on. I’ve heard that exact feeling from so many people.
Totally! It’s such a letdown when the reality doesn’t match the promise. It’s a common story, and it can really make you question the whole hiring process. It’s great that you’re able to see the humor in it, though! Have you found any ways to navigate those overwhelming situations when they arise? Sharing experiences can really help others feel less alone in the struggle!
