This doesn’t surprise me at all. Look at how many races Dems won (even in red states) after these special elections in November. The majority of ppl, and the data says it all, ppl do not like what they see and know to be true. Nobody wants armed men in the street, or a military presence; ppl know prices are higher; ppl wants job; ppl want economic stability; ppl do not want to see their neighbors and friends (legal citizens or working to be one) aggressively pulled and yanked w a gun in their face while zip tied lying face down on the ground; nobody wants the President personally making billions of 💰in crypto schemes, building contacts with other countries, and real estate prospects in other countries for his kids; ppl don’t like this cover re:the Epstein files; ppl don’t like that Trump threatens his opponents and openly states he hates democrats / and now is asking for the death of six congressional reps; ppl don’t want to get in another war with Venezuelas or Columbia or whomever ~ etc
It’s just too much for people
A right-wing group of board members took over the PYLUSD in Orange County. They accused everyone of breaking the law, but it was they who broke the law. Thought they could over-rule state law. That group put the district in a hole financially and they are suffering because of conservative ideology over what's actually best for students. Charter schools are not best for a District, for example. Why would they give away schools and their perview? Why would a school board member go on social media and tell parents to not send their kids to the school district? That is wacky stuff.
In Michigan school board elections are non-partisan
They’re supposed to be, but in our recent one we had a guy running again who was endorsed by a far-right offshoot of Moms for Liberty. He came in a distant, distant last, thank goodness.
I have found that most people who do not work inside a school building do not really understand the real issues facing schools. This is true of people across the political spectrum.
I have also found that even when I may agree with someone broadly on political issues, that does not mean they are competent to fill a role like school board member. Lots of people on school boards are just rubber stamps for the superintendent. It may not produce the best results, but it creates less chaos than someone who is antagonistic toward the superintendent and much of the faculty.
Sometimes board members want to push their own agenda, but they don’t understand the culture or direction of the district and eventually get voted out
I don’t pay attention to other school boards. I think that they should be the most local form of government, and therefore, outside of my district, I don’t have a say or a care.
