I would reach out to the HR department and see if there is a diversity representative if there is ask if corporate intends on making a diversity team/org. If not you can always ask to make one, but I would be surprised if there isn’t some already made somewhere. I hope this helps!!
Are there employee resource groups you can engage with to see if there are allies who also feel strongly about this?
Yes, talk to HR and offer to start or be a part of any DEI strategy they could be working on. A good amount of companies don’t know where to start. If your company is predominantly white, any hiring efforts may not yield results. it could be that their efforts aren’t truly representative of POC because their point of view is coming from what they think would work, not what they know could work due to lack of actual living as a POC.
I am a TA with an organization trying to develop a DEI strategy due to lack of diversity in our organization. Being that we can’t control marketing budgets, we brainstorm ways to have an inclusive reach. As “headhunters” we use keywords for organizations, HBCU, affiliations, fraternity, sorority, etc that are specifically for POC and all gender & binary, veterans, disability …to put it bluntly… anything that most likely doesn’t have white members etc. This is just one strategy.
