I used to be looped in on everything and now it’s like I’ve gone invisible. No major mistakes, no feedback, just radio silence and smaller and smaller assignments. It’s unsettling when you can feel yourself being quietly pushed to the margins but can’t point to anything concrete. I keep wondering if this is quiet firing, or if I’m just paranoid. Have you ever been iced out like this? What would you do?

This sounds familiar, only that I wish I had come here to get some rude awakening before being told to leave. Without knowing all the details, you are likely being quietly pushed out. You might want to take the cue.

I would note that there were times that I felt the way you described and the following month, would get very positive feedback, but I was ultimately frustrated with all the mixed signals. Because you've been looped in "on everything" in the past, as you say, I assume this new silence is more intentional than an oversight; so, if this bothers you and you'd like to stay, ask the higher ups/partners you work with for feedback on your work and areas of improvement. Of course, this may not change how they relate with you, but their response can give you better insights into what's going on and hopefully help you make a decision on staying or leaving.

You mentioned no "major" mistakes which tells me that there may have been some mistakes. In my (limited) experience, you can get burned for what you thought were minor mistakes, especially where the team doesn't care for you socially.

P.S. If you notice gradually being taken off client emails or notice that you are not assigned new cases/matters, you are very likely getting the boot. Good luck altogether.

It’s hard to tell in the moment, but documenting your work and asking for feedback can help you understand what’s really happening. If nothing changes, it might be time to explore other options.

How does the firm look financially? Is there an abundance of new clients or is there the possibility of a slow period? Is there an investment in New technology and systems? Perhaps it's not your work specifically but rather the firm isn't doing well financially and are looking to cut costs by decreasing the head count. I've seen that happen, typically in small firms.

I’v been in digital marketing for almost 5 years. I want to switch to marketing operations or research, because I find I’m better at and more interested in market research, audience research than keyword research or writing ad copies. I understand I don’t have enough direct experience and platform experience, like Nielsen.

I have a partner that calls me multiple times a day to talk about updates on our cases. Sometimes just to ask “anything to update me on?” He’s known across all of the associates for doing this. Most of the calls repeat information I’ve already provided in emails to him or the client. I normally bill this time as “strategize on” or “consider XYZ in further of” and it keeps getting appealed. Any advice?

Transactional associate. Lateraled 6 months ago and one of the biggest pain points has been my new firm’s inclination to “hop on a call”, which of course requires every single stakeholder to join. The end result being every call has 25 people on it and nothing actually gets done because no one wants to ask a question that could come off as silly. It’s destroying my ability to get anything done during the day. It’s a complete performance and it drives me nuts.
