Hugs. You might contact some local churches, especially large ones. They may be able to connect you into some existing support groups.
I’m glad to hear you are doing better now - and I have a huge amount of respect for you for what you’ve been able to accomplish and for wanting to help others who have been in a similar situation.
A few suggestions/resources.
1) Texas Baptist Children’s Home in Round Rock works with young adults who were homeless or in the foster care system. I don’t know what groups exist in Houston, but given that this is their mission, I assume/hope they would have some suggestions https://www.tbch.org. DM me if you want the name of someone you can contact directly.
2) The Beacon (downtown) works with our homeless community. I don’t know how connected they are to former foster youth, but it’s worth an ask. DM me if you want a contact name there, too.
3) Many years ago, I hired a young man into my former firm who had been both in the foster care system and also homeless and spoke to different community organizations about his experience. I just looked him up on Linked In and he’s no longer in Houston, but he might still have some connections in the city. DM if you want his name.
If I can’t DM you can we exchange emails?
My heart goes out to you. What part of Houston are you in? Are you religious / do you have a church home? Do you have any needs right now or are you in a better spot?
I live in central Houston near Westheimer road. I attend an episcopal church and go to a small group at grace.
The Hay Center does some great work with foster youth aging out of the foster care system but not sure if there’s restrictions on age / status
