AWS cloud application architect. Had an on-site interview with AWS a few days ago and just got an email saying they want to talk to me about next steps. The role is cloud application architect but I want to ask them about the senior cloud application architect role. I have all the relevant experience for that role and feel like I’d be a better fit for that senior role. How should I approach this conversation? Is this even possible? Amazon

Yeah, I went through the same thing, took a test, which had applicable questions for the most part. The next day was sent a congratulations email that I was hired, with a fairly unrealistic hire on rate. $5,000 starting bonus, etc. Next, was asked to purchase random (outdated) tech equipment that did not even make sense for the job requirements. Followed by, we will send you a check to cover the cost of these items. Companies don't send you a check to go out and pay for a bunch of equipment as part of the hire-on process. The Company would send you a laptop if needed to your residence with their software image already installed, VPN, etc. Such a SCAM and a waste of time. The individuals behind this are SCUM.
This is unfortunately a common scam that I have been through as well. I built a little tool you can use to check email addresses that can help show you quickly if you're running into trouble. https://github.com/PrairieWaltz/InboxInspector
Good luck out there everyone...we can't let these scammers win!
If THEY'RE asking YOU to front money for office furniture or ANYTHING, Run for the hills!!
The scam works something like this: they send you a check for a few thousand dollars. Ask you to buy via their portal with your own money for items you’ll never receive and the check will not clear.
Or the typical ‘we sent too much’ on the check please send back 500$ of your own money and the check never clears.
I encountered a similar situation. Closer inspection of the email address revealed the domain was not exactly the same as the company. I reviewed the company website for additional information. In my situation, I found a section that stated all communication would come from a specific address or domain. I contacted the company directly to report the scam but it took a week for a response.
SCAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAM!!!!!! RUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNN!!!!!!
Quietly back away from the screen and hope they dont notice before you are a safe distance. Also expect daily similar offers for the next 10 years
Scamers
It’s as legit as those old Nigerian Prince Emails from back in the day.
It's a scam, don't send them your sensitive info

Scam adjacent at best. How do you cash the check? Put in in your checking account. If the check is phony, you are on the hook. Legit company would send you the equipment, already setup for their standards. How did they get your info? How much do they have? I wouldn't hang around. Check your credit info with the big three and you might want to freeze your accounts. It's free.
It's a scam. I had the same experience a few months back.
This is definitely a scam. You'll cash the check, they'll tell you something like the amount was too much and ask you to send a portion of it back. By thetime your bank flags it as fraudulent, you'll be out of the money and they'll be in the wind
Same thing here, scam script, I reached out to the actual company the scammers were masquerading as and my suspicion was confirmed.
Of course it is…………….not.
No. Don't give them any information.
Ok send me detail
Tell them you will be glad to once the check clears the bank. Ask your bank to let you know when it clears. Don't worry, it never will. Cheaper for them to buy equipment and ship it to you. I did work from home for 8 years and we routinely got calls that someone was scamming people claiming to be us. They got a check, bought stuff, and then were asked to return "excess" money. The check is fake and now they are out thousands. Nothing I could do to help any of them.
