We are all moving towards MD focused promotions and MD external hiring more than ever before. Profitability is declining and this is our only solution to preserve distributable income by less admits and more forced retirements. Industry(B4)-wide this is a theme and it won’t change any time soon.
And...?
(BTW similar - had a bait n switch to MD as well, i stopped further interviews after that )
If I was older I would consider MD not at the age I am, I have a few more highway miles left in me.
My sense with a lot of these DAP/MD is they don't last very long and once you've started that I think it's short 2 year stints where you make your comp plan likely don't meet targets and you're swirling down to lower brands but I assume you've outearned sticking it out at accenture.
Definite lie
MD in Deloitte is a second grade citizen. First to get let go, no say in direction.
It’s true by definition. Not sure why that would surprise anyone, and MD1 why the eye roll? Partners own the firm. MDs are employees. It’s a pretty basic and clear distinction.
Now, they may try to operate broadly as a peer group, given the reality that tenures and skillsets can be similar across the PPMD group. It’s hard to argue that the firm will achieve the best outcomes if MDs feel like they’re part of the same team as the Partners.
But that’s an intentional cultural goal; it says nothing about the functional reality - which is that Partners decide to flex employee counts up and down, as needed, which includes MDs.
Separately Partners may also find themselves on the chopping block for not maintaining a book of business sufficient to have kept those employees from getting cut in the first place. But that’s a separate process and usually happens long after employees (including MDs) have been RIFd.
Was this an internal referral , Deloitte recruiters or through a retained exec recruiter firm? Sometimes that matters on these bait and switch
Internal referral from someone I’ve known for a while then I talked to a few folks and an executive recruiter. But topic didn’t come up early with those folks. Only later the exec recruiter told me and the cat was out of the bag
I went through the same switch. I was recruited from an internal executive recruiter. It looks like D isn’t really entertaining hiring any DAPs anymore.
Same thing for me, although this was 2 yrs ago at this point
Sounds like you don’t actually know what you are talking about but are getting high and mighty with the recruiter.
Thanks, D1!
What does Dap stand for?
