Eh. They’re all the same imo.
Gotcha
What do you mean “for us”? The best Big 4 to work for is the one that has the people / clients you like in your particular office location.
Read your post to yourself a few times and try to pick up the subtle contradictions to the point you’re trying to make. It’s great that you’re an all star, but the fact that you immediately made a connection to race shows that the color of your skin has at least some bearing. Some people aren’t interested in “playing the game” and just want to paid in exchange for labor provided.
Bowl Leader
My qualifier is that I've only worked at BDO and like it. My only issue is not having enough of us, but I know we're getting better with that.
That said, if you hit the info button on our bowl, you'll see twice as many members from EY or KPMG... so it might be one of those firms? I'm curious as to why and would love to hear from them.
This comment is top tier as a person who also works at BDO and coming from other arenas I can say we are small in number and hard to find across the firm compared to other places. But it could just be the office and team I’m serving and location has a lot to do with the culture of the office because it impacts the culture of the teams, clients, and inclusion efforts.
I have also noticed the same similarities in volume at places like EY (Not so much KPMG), when working with other service lines from other firms on the same clients or going to events like NABA, having higher representation not only amongst lower levels, but amongst the highest levels of their firms. I was also educated at an HBCU and note the B4 was recruiting at my school mostly from Deloitte and KPMG making sure their presence was felt in ways smaller firms didn’t. I prefer middle market clients and stick to middle market firms I prefer the atmosphere but knowing there were visible, vocal firm leadership at B4 firms and a large volume of lower level participation I would assume all B4 would have the similar opportunities for us but maybe EY is more visible with their successful employees of color.
I’m just an outsider looking in and I can say the bigger middle market firm I came from was also visible, vocal, and had great volume of employees of color than BDO. It does however depend on your office region and/or service line really made the employees feel at home because Chicago, Indiana, Detroit, Ohio, DC, and Philadelphia employees seemed to have vastly different experiences within the same firm.
