I was recently RIF'd after 6 months, even though I was hitting quota. Every recruiter assumes I just wasn't good enough, since 6 months is when poor performers get managed out, I guess. Now I regret leaving a solid 4-year run for this job. Any tips for how to address this when interviewing? The market sucks enough already, and I really need a job.

I wouldn't be too scared of this. My husband went through something similar earlier this year and he didn't need an elaborate explanation, he just said it wasn't a great fit and they had to part ways. It took him about 4 months but he landed something much better than his previous role

Think of ways to turn your challenges into successes. Talk about the lessons you learned and share how you've grown from your last job. I think recruiters and hiring managers are understanding that people aren't always the best fit for every job, but it's about your attitude and how you approach it.

Quantify your achievements, keep your integrity intact and tell the truth. Nothing to lose other than self respect because you made up a lie.

When asked be professional on your response but own it my man, You will get the respect and the job. If you show a hint of insecurity or lack of confidence, you’re out .

Hi everyone, a question to the tech industry at large.

Why are people so hesitant to hire disabled candidates?

I am a visually impaired practitioner in South Africa, with 7 years of experience, and as soon as recruiters or business owners hear/read that I'm disabled, the conversation gets awkward and I never hear from them again.

I'm currently working as an electrical designer in the MEP industry. I really don't like it and I'm working towards a career change which I'm actively applying for and getting certified etc. However, it's been a slow process and I'm currently underpaid where I am so would it be wise to make a lateral move to another MEP firm simply because they offer me more money while I still look for a different job separate from this field? Or just tough it out?

Has anyone made the jump from one HR specialty to another? I’m trying to figure out if I’m better off trying to get experience in the new specialty internally, or if I just find a new role elsewhere. Thanks!

NFW- I just had a good laugh. Earlier today I was on a video conference call reviewing a Private Label Agreement template with a larger company who wishes to brand label products we develop and manufacture. We came to a very one-sided provision and my sales VP stated “for this one, how can we just say ‘hell no’ ...nicely?” The other person on the call said we can replace the wording with just NFW (no f@$* way) and I said “I will have to add that to the defined terms section so it’s clear”
