If it happens 100% of the time, it's probably a bit of resistance to fresh ideas. But you know what? I'm okay with it. Loyalty in the workplace is all but dead. It's kind of refreshing to hear that there are still companies out there who reward employees for sticking with them.
good perspective!

We interview internally first. It was a result of people leaving because they felt there were no opportunities to grow. You can bring fresh ideas being placed in a new position.
so true!
You don’t have to hire solely externally for fresh ideas. I think that has more to do with the culture and what is encouraged. That said, a mix of both is usually the best.
that makes sense, ya a little of both is great i think

We have shifted to mostly external hires…not sure how the company can sustain long term when the external hire you just hire actually performs and then realizes they can’t move up the career ladder because the role above them will be yet another external hire.
I agree you need a mix, but also external hires become internal employees after you hire them. When does there new car smell wear off - after a year or 2?

It’s super weird coming from an agency that had an up or out model.
I think it varies from company to company. However, in terms of my experience in corporate America, it seems like a resistance to fresh ideas.
