Yes, first rule in middle school; Lead by example .... Leadership 101.
Their need to be levels and privileges of authority.
Adults get to use their phones, I’m not surfing the internet but I utilize it for activities and emergencies.
Students need to respect that dynamic.
We are not their friends, it’s not a same level thing, it makes them helpless to do that.
“I can only cope if the adult has the same rules, is not a good idea.”

Agreed!
I agree that one should not be scrolling through social media while teaching, but I’m not opposed to using my phone to check the time, run a timer, or check emails and texts if I’m expecting something for class. My team of teachers and admin will text each other important things throughout the day as well.
The kids can’t use theirs, but I use mine in a responsible and professional manner. There’s nothing wrong with doing that, in my opinion.

Absolutely. I use mine for school related activities too but like other people are saying I’m not scrolling the Internet. That was my original (poorly written) point.
While I’ve always lived by this rule, I changed schools in November and the new school uses text to communicate throughout the school day.

Moderation for sure. The kids don’t see you glued to the phone and that is what matters.
Why would you be on your phone? I don't even have mine on, because it rings with nonsense all day.

Right? Yet some teachers are!
