Both. Your staff members are just as burnt out as you are. Except they haven’t been given massive retention bonuses to stay. Treat them the way you want to be treated. Check in on them, treat them like you care about them (bonus points if you actually do).
Do this especially when you don’t need anything from them and you’ll get less attitude when you need someone to do work for you.
At my firm staff were all given bonuses but associates weren’t. While I’m all for showing appreciation to staff, it did make it difficult not to start looking around at firms that can show they appreciate staff and associates.

We keep losing admin staff. No one wants to do the job anymore unless they get paid much better

Yep. I’m extremely nice to staff but my assistant is just… not doing her job anymore. It is frustrating. I just keep trying to be nice and positive.

Newsflash: your assistants make 60-90K. You make multiples of that. They are not paid to deal with emergencies at all hours like you. Be kind.
