If you had two offers, must take one. What would you take?

1.) Second to CIO at small insurance company. Better WLB but unlikely long term and lower comp.
2.) Asset manager director to insurance companies. Big growth potential but big risk. Worse WLB but better pay day 1 and onward (eg +75-100k)

Depends on a lot of things. Are you single? Have kids? Have a mortgage, high rent? How much does money matter? Also how much lower? There are so many factors that would play into it for me.

Family, hcol area. Job 1 pays bills and keeps family afloat. Job 2 gets the fun stuff (eg vacations, home updates, college fully paid, etc)

Whats the current investment framework for 1 and 2?

Since both are insurance companies, the liability side of asset allocation is critical. Will you be instrumental in building out or enhancing their liability management?

would you be a member of - or participant on - the IC?

How much leniency do you have in strategic investment decisions in either role - take whichever one you’re more hands on and can demonstrate successful investment management / risk oversight.

I agree with Senior Manager 1. While it depends on many factors, personally, in my current situation, I would choose offer #1. I place a high value on work-life balance and spending time with friends and family.

I’m having the hardest time finding a new job. I have 12 years of HR experience, a masters in HR, SHRM certification, and all I keep getting are rejection emails. I’ve never experienced this difficult of a time searching for new opportunities. Is this normal once you hit a certain level in your career or is it just me?

We start school tomorrow and we were just told we will have one session (50) mins. of open periods in our fixed schedules due to smaller class sizes in 4 grade levels. However, we are meeting (library, pe,music, art) team with admin tomorrow to discuss what “to do” during our “free time”. I explained that I am doing two jobs (teaching library & tech & running a library w/ a new aide who needs to be trained). I need more ideas to support my team to not fill those “slots” with instructional groups.

Any working mothers in here who loves the company they’re working for? I am thinking about switching firms and need some honest thoughts on companies that doesn’t only say, but actually practice flexibility for work life balance and offers good $$$.

I am a high performer at my current firm but they started questioning working arrangements of folks based on the new members who are huge in-office folks, fast turnover within the team, etc. This wasn’t an issue when I first joined.

I am asked during this RE analyst interview to build a real estate model from scratch. My background is commercial banking and I am used to analyzing real estate deals from the lender side not the developer. The interviewer is generous I must say he’s giving me a few days to complete. However this model is for a ground up multifamily development. I have no prior experience building one. I can find models online but all very complexe to reproduce. How would you handle? Do you have model to share?

Due to obvious conditions my comp for the calendar year (salary+bonus) is back to 2017 levels although my overall sales are more than double and 1/3 less total comp than last year. Curious what’s a fair salary in MA? Was just told that there is likely not going to be a chance for a raise during my upcoming performance review due to my salary already being “above average for the industry” based on my employer’s questionable research. I’ve been with the company 8.5 years & am the only one in my role, which they can’t operate without. I execute tasks from two investment advisors and two financial planners - they make the decisions of what should happen & I make it happen.
