Hey Rob, not sure if you had a hand in crafting this, but this was - BY FAR - the best example of corporate leadership I've ever seen.
Transparent; Empathetic; Clear; Human.
Can you speak a bit about how ethics permeates AirBnBs culture?

Remote jobs are SUPER competitive at the moment so not surprising. It's a test of patience at this point tbh
I was in a similar position until I redid my LinkedIn and Resume. Then I started getting more people to reach out to me and landed a Director role. You got this!
I asked a bunch of fellow recruiters at other companies to look at it and also recommend my profile to anyone they knew or reached out to - I got key feedback (like how my LinkedIn wasn't clear what my area of focus was) this way and changed it to match
No. It’s a terrible market right now. I empathize with anyone searching. Forced me into consulting. Consider consulting. Companies may be more open to that. Fully onsite roles are struggling to get people, atleast that’s been my observation
Recruiting agent I knew. You can also contact old contacts/ companies. Also have to market yourself like it’s your business
Agreed, OP - it's not just you and you are absolutely correct that hitting a more senior level will narrow the number of fitting roles available to you.
I also have 10+ years of HR experience including talent acquisition management and director level responsibilities; I have had a really difficult time these past months finding roles which aren't a step down in some way.
Keep your chin up and stay positive!
Same! I want to stay with my company but having a really tough time with things right now. Keep interviewing with other departments and nothing. Difficult to say the least given that I don’t think I am a total neophyte.
I have found the same thing. I have over 15 years experience and kept coming up with dead ends or a lot of step down positions. I would love to stay remote and I don’t know how you are searching, but I started opening up my search to hybrid and on site in my area and negotiated some remote time while I was interviewing. Almost all companies were at least open to discussing it! Once I started doing that- the interview requests starting coming in!
Definitely don't take anything personally. When we posted HR positions this year we received easily 9-10x the applications we see on many other roles at the organization. It seems to be a highly competitive field at the moment.
Recommendations I can provide would be to really lean into your LinkedIn presence and look into staffing agencies.
Hope this helps and you secure your next role soon!!
Thank you so much!
Remote jobs are the most competitive right now.
OP, try Stripe. They have a few director-level remote HR positions they are hiring for right now.
Thank you! I’ll check it out.
Annoying stuff like this is why I don’t want to get an MBA.
Everyone has experience, certifications, and degrees but still cannot get a job
I feel like employers ask for so much and then they offer little pay.
Best of luck to you!
SO true. And thank you!
It's not you. The system is broken. I never, ever had trouble getting a job before in my life, and when I lost my job a few years ago, it took over 500 applications, endless networking, and more than 4 years before I found another FT job. Personally, I think it's ageism.
Everyone wants fully remote and a lot of companies are doing hybrid. And there are people willing to take that
Yup same. I’m an HR Generalist, and I’ve been looking for a job for a few months and haven’t found anything. I’ve gotten interviews but no job offers. I’m looking at both hybrid and on site. I know how competitive the remote ones are so I’ve stopped trying with them. Best of luck to everyone looking. Hope you find something soon!
It's not just you, I was looking for 6 months, talked to 40+ companies and applied to countless others. It's a competitive market out there even though there are jobs, you just need to keep at it. It may take reaching out to people directly on LinkedIn to show more interest and get interviews, I did that and it resulted in a lot more traction than I was previously getting. Also make sure your resume really shows what you've accomplished and how you benefited the companies you've worked for as opposed to just duties/responsibilities.
Agree that at the senior level it gets tougher.
It’s a tough market for experienced candidates. I made it to the final round of two positions and was turned down for super specific reasons. One, they choose a candidate who had direct, prior experience partnering with that type of team (Ux) and the second because they choose a candidate who had more people analytics experience (I’ve taken courses but my company just doesn’t have the size or money to support a dedicated people analytics team).
I’m doing what a lot of others here have advised - taking courses, revamping LI, resume, etc.
I have 10 yr of experience and it's so hard. I've never experienced anything like this
Kee looking the right opportunity will come!!
It might take a little longer but keep the faith. The right opportunity is bound to turn up.
The more senior, the harder… It’s horrible. If you can take a pay cut, it’s easier (I know, still horrible). If you can get into the office 5x/week, another way to beat the younger competition…
I was also just informed by a colleague, another Recruiter, that certain background don’t mix well with corporate positions. Man… Such a stigma. For example, if you come from Banking, you may not mix well with a new industry because “Bankers are a special breed.” I try to move around those types of thoughts by have a 1-1 call with a person. But, if I am not the job owner, I can’t do too much to place you. I’m throwing this out here for people to “chew on,” so that you know what happens behind the scenes. If there’s a way to break that stigma or traditional story, let’s do it!
