I'd start it now. It's taking a long time for people to find jobs in this market. I'd want as much of a head start as possible since it's likely going to take you months to get an offer. If you do before the vacation, just make it clear to the hiring manager and you should be fine. I doubt they're going to pull the offer after investing time into multiple rounds of interviews with you.
Thank you!! That’s my thought too, I’d rather have more time knowing how long everything is taking
Definitely start now. That's not that much time, I know most people are looking much longer than that. If you do miraculously happen to get a job before, you can let them know about this trip and set your start date to after your trip.
Thank you! That’s what I was thinking too, so appreciate the confirmation
Super tough to say because I've experienced it going both ways. Once had a really quick interview process and ultimately lost the job opportunity due to a preplanned (and paid for) upcoming 10 day vacation when they needed to hire immediately. But that was prior to the job market we are in today where it can take 2 months just to get the hiring process moving. I guess I would still suggest looking now, couldn't hurt, right?
That’s my biggest fear!! But also if they can’t let me take a pre-planned vacation, may not be the place for me!
I say just start the job hunt. The job market is tough right now so it may take a while to find something. And it takes months to go through the interview/hiring process anyway.
Echoing others - start now. I don’t know why you wouldn’t; if you get an offer before the vacay, great! If they want to pull back the offer because they need someone now, you were never right for that job anyways. By not starting now, you are 100% not going to find a job that works for you.
Employers are willing to work with you too.
Thank you all! This is so helpful and reaffirming to start the job hunt now :) appreciate everyone’s insight!
I’ve never not hired someone due to a planned PTO. If we made you an offer now, we’d probably still onboard you and then you’d some back ready to go. If your PTO was only a couple of weeks out we might ask you to start after your vacay.
